Garden Room Construction & Specifications

FOUNDATIONS

For a solid and long-lasting base, we recommend installing a concrete slab foundation prior to installation.

For a more environmentally friendly alternative, we also offer ground screw foundations, which provide excellent structural support with minimal ground disturbance. Pricing available on request.

STRUCTURE

All of our cabins are constructed using Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the complete frame.

SIPs are renowned for their strength and stability while offering a highly energy-efficient building system. This construction method ensures your garden room is robust, precise, and built for long-term performance.

INSULATION

The SIPs panels used in our cabins provide exceptional thermal performance, outperforming many traditional and off-site manufactured building systems.

This ensures your garden room remains comfortable and well-insulated throughout the year, whatever the season.

ROOF

Each cabin is protected with a durable EPDM rubber membrane roof.

This seamless, joint-free roofing system eliminates common weak points, significantly reducing the risk of leaks and ensuring long-lasting weather protection.

INTERNAL FINISH

Internally, cabins are finished with plaster and painted in matte white, creating a clean, bright, and welcoming space.

For a more natural or industrial aesthetic, the OSB panels can be left exposed, offering a warm, rustic finish.

LIGHTING

Low-level LED downlights illuminate both the interior and porch areas of the cabin. Lighting is controlled via a convenient two-way switch, allowing easy operation from inside and out.

CLADDING

Our garden rooms are finished with high-quality Thermowood or European Larch cladding, both valued for their durability, warm tones, and distinctive grain.

For a more contemporary look, we also offer a matte black cladding finish or an accelerator treatment for enhanced ageing

FLOORING

The insulated floor is finished with a hard-wearing OSB subfloor, ready to accept your chosen final flooring.

A range of flooring options is available as optional extras, allowing you to tailor the interior to your intended use. Pricing available on request.

GLAZING

Our cabins feature slimline, matte black powder coated aluminium sliding doors.

The minimalist frames create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing natural light to flood the interior and enhancing the overall sense of space.

ELECTRICS

Each cabin includes:

Four double plug sockets

Concealed internal cabling

A dedicated consumer unit

Internal and external spotlights

This setup is ready for connection by your electrician, ensuring a safe and practical electrical installation.

WATERPOOFING

The entire cabin is wrapped in a UV-stable, breathable membrane, fully sealed at all joins. This system protects the structure from moisture ingress while allowing the building to breathe, keeping the cabin dry and well-protected.

WARRANTY

All Backyard Cabins come with a 10-year warranty, giving you confidence in the quality, materials, and workmanship of your garden room.

High-Performance, Low-Maintenance Cladding

Designed to Last, Naturally

Our cladding system is designed to deliver exceptional performance with minimal maintenance. Thanks to a ventilated installation method, it does not require surface treatment to perform effectively in any climate.

When left untreated, the timber naturally weathers over time, developing a soft silver-grey patina that enhances its character while maintaining durability.

Proven Performance in All Climates

This cladding system is proven to perform reliably even in challenging environmental conditions. It remains stable and consistent, showing minimal reaction to changes in humidity or temperature.

As a result, your garden room maintains its appearance and structural integrity year after year, whatever the weather.

Sustainable Forests

We use Nordic PEFC-certified timber, sourced from responsibly managed forests that meet internationally recognised sustainability standards.

All wood is carefully selected for strength, stability, and durability, ensuring long-lasting performance while supporting sustainable forestry practices. This approach allows us to create high-quality garden rooms with a reduced environmental impact.
